As of January 1, 2021, the United Kingdom has become a third country; some important regulatory changes have therefore taken place to take into consideration. In our last article we have already presented the changes for the responsible person for a cosmetic product. Today let’s see together what happens at the level of an essential document for all cosmetic products: the PIF.
The PIF
The PIF or Product Information File is a very complete and extensive dossier that verifies the characteristics of the product to assess possible risks and verify the compliance of the product with the European Regulation. To find out more, read our article dedicated to this topic: Essential documents for drafting a compliant PIF.
What changed after Brexit
From 1 January 2021, the PIF used in the EU is no longer valid in the UK. In fact, the PIF of cosmetic products marketed on the UK market must be made in English and specify the reference of a responsible person based in the UK; moreover, it must be drawn up in compliance with the requirements of the new English regulation.
The PIF must contain the following information and data:
- Description of the cosmetic product.
- Report on the safety of cosmetic products.
- Production method and GMP.
- Nature and proof of effect of the product.
- Animal testing.
UK: new cosmetic regulation coming soon
We also remind you that the UK can no longer apply Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 and that it is currently developing its own cosmetic regulation: contact us to find out more.
